Norovirus is an RNA virus of the Caliciviridae family and infects people regardless of age and infection occurs sporadically throughout the world. The potential for norovirus infection can occur in food poisoning even with very low virus numbers, and transmission through bodily fluids. Most norovirus infections can be overcome without particular treatment. Although severe dehydration or electrolyte imbalance may occur, common intervention methods such as saline treatment can remedy these symptoms. Detection of norovirus presence occurs through PCR of fecal samples of patients.
