Overview

C. albicans is a pathogenic yeast that can be found in the gastrointestinal tract and oral cavity of healthy adults. It is the most common yeast that can be isolated from the biofilm formed on implanted medical devices and causes candidiasis. About 75% of women will suffer from Candida vaginitis at some point in their life, and 90% of these infections are caused by C. albicans. In addition, the mortality rate of patients infected with systemic candidiasis in hospitals has been reported to be approximately 40%, so people with weakened immune system need to be careful.
