Overview

R. mucilaginosa is a Gram-positive bacterium that exists in the human mouth and upper respiratory tract. It is generally related with bacteremia, sepsis, and endocarditis in immunocompromised patients and is the cause of bronchodilation. It is easily confused with bacteria from the genus Micrococcus and Staphylococcus, but can be distinguished by the formation of sticky colonies in blood agar plate. It is resistant to quinoline antibiotics and has vancomycin sensitivity.
