Overview

P. alcalifaciens is found in the digestive tract of humans and animals. It is mainly associated with diarrhea in children or overseas travelers. Transmission is known to occur primarily through the consumption of contaminated food. Diarrhea caused by P. alcalifaciens infection appears after incubation period of 1~4 days and may be accompanied by abdominal pain, vomiting, and fever. This infection has been observed to be more common and more severe in children than in adults.
