Overview

M. morganii is a gram-negative bacterium that can be found in the intestines of humans and mammals. M. morganii is usually harmless, but infection can occur when the immune system is compromised after surgery or hospital-acquired infections. The risk of infection is particularly high when neutrophils are reduced as a result of chemotherapy. When an infection develops, it can cause sepsis, urinary tract infections, meningitis and even death. The use of antibiotics for treatment has a high success rate.
