Overview

V. fluvialis can be found mainly in the oceans worldwide, and the frequency of detection in marine animals and shellfish is very high. In particular, raw oysters consumed during the warm season are the main source of infection. V. fluvialis infection causes diarrhea and acute gastroenteritis with symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever. The various virulence factors such as the hemolysin are known to trigger the disease. V. fluvialis is very similar in characteristics to V. furnissii, but can be distinguished by differences in the sequence of genes.
