Overview

S. haemolyticus is a bacterium commonly found in human skin, the armpits, perineum, and groin. It usually causes device-related infections related to endovascular catheters, endocarditis, and meningitis. S. haemolyticus has high antibiotic resistance and biofilm-forming ability. The ability that attaches to a medical device inserted in the body and form a biofilm is a factor that makes S. haemolyticus infections more difficult to treat. These characteristics increase antibiotic resistance and make the infection persistent.
