Overview

N. gonorrhoeae is a gram-negative bacterium known to primarily cause gonorrhea and cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or arthritis. N. gonorrhoeae is a representative pathogen that causes gonorrhea through sexual transmission in both men and women. Both men and women infected with gonorrhea often have no clear symptoms, and if they have symptoms, symptoms appear in the genitals. In particular, mothers should be careful of infection because there is a possibility of vertical transmission to newborns during childbirth.
