Overview

C. coli is a gram-negative bacterium that causes Campylobacteriosis. C. coli is known to cause acute gastroenteritis, as C. jejuni, another bacterium of the genus Campylobacter. It is most commonly infected by eating insufficiently cooked meat such as cattle, or pigs, or poultry and accompanied by symptoms such as diarrhea, stomachache, and fever. In particular, Campylobacteriosis accounts for 5 to 14% of the causes of diarrhea worldwide. In most cases, recovery takes 2 to 5 days, but some patients with weakened immunity may become chronically ill.
