Overview

A. actinomycetemcomitans is a bacterium that causes periodontitis by producing leukotoxin and causing an inflammatory reaction. When tartar builds up around the teeth, bacteria in the oral cavity secrete toxic factors, which inflame the gums and cause periodontitis. Recently, A. actinomycetemcomitans is known to cause periodontitis as well as rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease. With the current bacterial culture method alone, it is difficult to quickly identify the bacteria that cause oral disease, so a technology for accurate analysis is needed.
