Riemerella anatipestifer, E. coli and Salmonella spp. cause a systemic disease in chickens, ducks and other poultry that
reduces weight and hatchability in them, which finally results in an enormous damage to farmers.
E. coli is mostly related to repiratory diseasee in poultry, which may develop into sepsis, granuloma, air sacculitis,
salpingitis and arthritis that cause tremendous economic loss.
Riemerella anatipestifer is a nonmotile, gram-negative bacillus, and 21 serotypes have been identified to date
—in South Korea, 1, 4, 7 and 16 serotype. It causes acute and chronic septic infectious diseases characterized by fibrous
pericarditis, perihepatitis, air sacculitis and meningitis, which result in high mortality and weight loss in poultry.
Salmonella causes S. Pullorum, S. Gallinarum and avian paratyphoid infection in poultry that are followed by a fall in egg
production, fertility or hatchability, or even a death.
